Hiring Fair, Letterkenny
by Maurice Harron 1994

This statue is located in the Donegal town of Letterkenny, Ireland. The plaque tells the story of a child that would be hired as a farm labourer. ” We didn’t sleep that night and it was hardly day when everybody started gathering in the marketplace of the fair. There were farmers there from every quarter of Ulster. They probably thought that they’d get people like us from the western parts cheaply enough and they knew of course the reputation we had that we were as good workers as could be got in the country.”
